June 2023
Dear members, friends and neighbors,
Welcome to the summer season of life at Lac des Iles! We wish you a lot of beautiful days on the shores of our beautiful lake. As you know, the Association’s team works hard to protect, conserve and enhance the natural environment of Lac des Îles. However, it is important for everyone, owner and visitor, to protect this beautiful resource. Human activity is the biggest factor affecting our environment. We encourage everyone to make wise choices in our activities around the lake. Boat washing, using household products that are healthier for the environment, respecting the riparian strip, respecting fire bans and so on, are all examples of wise choices that help keep our lake clean for us and future generations.
Being vigilant and learning about things that can impact our lake is also of great importance. Last year, members noticed suspicious watermilfoil in a bay and reported it to us. Upon investigation, it turns out it was fortunately a native and non-invasive species. Early detection of an infestation would minimize the high costs of control measures.
With the prevalence of Eurasian watermilfoil in some surrounding lakes, the new boat wash station in the town of Blue Sea located next to the community hall at 396 ch. du Lac Long is a privileged tool to combat this scourge. Promote it to your visitors, fishermen and recreational boat users.
We modernized ALIE’s website to help you stay connected! It has the latest news and updates. Visit http://www.associationlacdesiles.org/. We also have our own Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/associationlacdesiles. “Like” our page and share the love of Lac des Îles! Post any interesting animal sightings, lake stories and, of course, your latest pictures.
The sound management of the Association depends on the involvement of members, volunteers and obviously the income from contributions for its proper functioning. For the benefit of current and future residents of the lake, your committee appreciates your support by becoming a member or renewing your membership in the Association pour l’environnement du lac des Îles (A.L.I.E.). Membership dollars contribute to costs such as water testing, biological studies and several other lake activities such as maintaining floating marker buoys. Please share and encourage your neighbours and friends to renew their membership and help recruit new members to further strengthen our ability to preserve and protect our lake. The annual membership fee remains at $15.00 per person. Membership is valid from January 1st to December 31st of each year. We encourage members to pay by e-transfer at infolacdesiles@gmail.com. For the security question, if asked, the answer should be “ALIE”. If you prefer to pay by cheque, you can do so at the AGM by arriving early or by mailing a cheque to: ALIE, c/o Manon Dugal, Secretary, 38 chemin B.-Fortin, Blue Sea, QC, J0X 1C0. Donations are always welcomed.
Please ensure that we have your current email as we are moving to become paperless. The annual registration form is available on ALIE’s website use it to add the names of your family and friends who are becoming members and return it to: infolacdesiles@gmail.com.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 10am to join us at our AGM at the Lac Long Hall (396 ch. du lac long). Sharing information is very important to us, and your input is valued.
